We’re finally here! We left yesterday morning around 6:00am and got here around 3:15pm yesterday afternoon. It was a pretty easy drive, just long (especially on 3 hours of sleep). I think the temperature was about 20° cooler than it was at home. When I was planning the trip I chose this hotel because it was close to the cemetery that I needed to go to. The map said it was a mile away. It’s actually right across the street from the hotel. The view from the window in our room is of the cemetery. It’s very coincidental and just weird to me.
We went to a really good Italian restaurant after we got here – Luigi’s. I had chicken with ham and cheese on top in Alfredo sauce. And they had some awesome pumpkin soup. After that we went back to the hotel room. We were pretty tired and went to sleep around 8pm!
This morning I went to the cemetery to try to find the grave I was looking for. It was very windy and pretty chilly – I think it was around 43° when I went out. And it rained the night before so the ground was pretty wet. It really was beautiful out there with the leaves changing colors and the mountains in the background. It was a big cemetery – I walked around for an hour and a half before I finally found her. I just stood there for a few minutes. I couldn’t believe after all these years that I was actually finally in Pennsylvania. It felt weird being as close to her as I was 12 years ago – to know that she was right there. I didn’t want to leave her.
Then I went downtown to look at the city. I ended up parking somewhere and just walking around. It was a neat city with a main street that looked just like a small-town northern street, with lots of little shops and stores. I loved the big, tall houses and the big hills that the streets were on. I would move somewhere north in a heartbeat if it wasn’t so snowy during the winter. After that I walked to a flower shop and bought some flowers to put on the grave.
At this point I hadn’t heard from the sister that I had been emailing back and forth with. The last email I sent her was telling her where I was staying and the dates I would be here. I looked up the phone number of the other sister in the phone book here and called her. No one was home so I left a message. A few minutes later I get a phone call back from her (it turns out her daughter was home and called her mom at work to give her the message). She told me that her and the other sister would like to meet me and talk so we are all going to dinner tonight. I can’t wait! I think this will be the main thing that helps both me (and their family).
